CD ALUMS
I wanted to express the two different ways a person is crying for help, inconspicuous and noticeable. My two CD albums focused on mood and composition to demonstrate the loneliness and sadness we feel when our voices linger in the air as an echo
Echo. It is the sound of your voice that wants to be heard but is there anyone willing to listen? The first album I designed is bright and eye-catching, where the waves of sound flow in every direction. It is a distraction to the loneliness we feel when we want to be heard. We may scream and shout for help but if there is no one around, your voice turns into an echo reverberating across the room. I was inspired by an image of a person crying, hiding behind a smiling mask. Although someone comes across as happy and satisfied with their life, there will always be this loneliness we feel that creeps up when we are by ourselves. I used Illustrator to interpret soundwaves, and contrasting colors of red and yellow, two colors that represent happiness and love for me. The second album I designed is more organized and outlined to perfection, which gives a completely different mood from the first design. I wanted to express loneliness in a different way. For this design, I focused on the color blue, the universal color of sadness. It is a call for help in a crowded room but with no one willing to lend a helping hand. The vulnerability we feel in the moment is expressed with shades of blue. The feeling of being disregarded breaks something inside of us, like shattered glass that cannot be fixed. But we still cry for help, hoping for someone to save us. Our voices echoing out into the void.
